I read with interest that the Environment Agency is ready to enforce a hose pipe ban because of low levels of rainfall over the past few months.
How is it that in one of the wetter parts of the world we seem to have a shortage of water almost each and every year?
The next thing we'll be hearing is that certain parts of the country are experiencing severe floods. Too much water!
If you think about other countries in the EU who don't have the same average rainfall as the UK, why do they never have water shortages? When was the last time you where on holiday in Spain or Turkey and where told that water was in short supply?
I suppose the answer is investment and investment costs money and that means that either the shareholders aren’t going to make as much profit (So sad) or the public will have to put there hands in there pockets once again. I'd wager money on the later 
However if plans for new reservoirs where announced then the tree huggers will be out in abundance trying to stop them. Plus the time and cost it takes for committee meeting after committee meeting the project will take years and then run out of money before its completed.
Take the Alderley By-pass as an example! How many years has this been going now?
Water is a basic necessity and this year upon year water shortage needs to be addressed now, not when this problem reaches catastrophic proportions.
The government needs to stop trying to save the world and sort its own country out while we still have one to sort out.

Yeah,
Often more of a problem in the UK because we have a higher proportion of the country covered in concrete so when it does rain it tends to end up as surface water which goes straight down the drains and eventually back to the sea.
Plus i wouldn't necessarily call a hose pipe ban indicative of future catastrophe. And suggesting that our hose pipe requirements are more important than famine, real drought or any of the hundreds of other wider world concerns is just pathetic. Sorry.
